I Worry that the Dogs are Bored
I worry that the dogs are bored
And that my kids are eating Kit Kats for dinner
I ask myself,
What’s the point
Of all this art?
Because time is money
And time is fleeting
And all that jazz
What am I doing holed up in a studio with balled up paper towels littered across the floor like the dirty socks in my daughter’s room?
So, I read books about why art is good for the world and good for my anxiety and how it might make me rich (but probably not) and I watch YouTubers who have it all figured out
I walk the dogs
Boil pasta for the kids
Make biscuits with butter
Then go up to my studio
Fresh paint water
Carbon Black
Cerulean Blue Deep
Long handled brushes and
Crusty palette knives
There, out the window, do you see the shadows the trees make on the old barn beyond the soy crop?
An hour goes by
Or Two
Before I realize I’ve forgotten
For a little bit
That I exist
You can find my available work here.
Sending you peace, love, and painting,
Julie
